Lookcher “A Large Step”

In 1907, Mr.Edward T. Miles, an Australian businessman found a ledge in the area of Thungkha bay. He took a dredger which was used to excavate a watercourse in Australia to modify with the attachment of “Lookcher” (bucket), which is an important material to dredge up the soil with ore underwater in Phuket city. It was the first dredger in the world to be used for dredging the ore in the sea and able to dredge an immense amount of tin without using numerous amounts of labour as with land mines. It opened an era of sea mining being led by an English national company and initiated an extreme change in economy, society and the Phuket city plan.
